Cheyenne Mountain High School is located in the shadows of scenic Cheyenne Mountain in the southwest part Colorado Springs, Colorado. Cheyenne Mountain School District is one of only three districts in the Pikes Peak region that has been "Accredited with Distinction" by the Colorado Department of Education.
Recognized nationally for academic excellence, Cheyenne Mountain High School is a Blue Ribbon School as selected by the U.S. Department of Education. This is a prestigious national award received by only a handful of schools in Colorado. Additionally, Cheyenne Mountain High School has been a winner of the John Irwin School of Excellence award every year since the award's inception in 2001.
CMHS also excels in athletics and the fine arts, with numerous athletic state championships. Our choral, band, visual art and drama programs are state and nationally recognized, and CMHS is home to the 2011 state champion Science Olympiad team and 2011 state runner-up Science Bowl team.

PROPOSAL FOR NEW TEXTBOOK FOR GENERAL PHYSICS FOR 2012-13
The Science Department is proposing the purchase of a new textbook for the General Physics classes for use in the 2012-2013 school year and beyond. Chuck Hendrick, Physics instructor, has reviewed the various books that are on the market for physics instruction and has completed a process to review each of the available texts through the American Institute of Physics survey of high school physics texts. Using the AIP criteria for textbook review, Mr. Hendrick has recommended Holt McDougal Physics, (Raymond Surway and Jerry Faughn, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing, c 2012) as the text to be adopted.
Per Board of Education policy, any recommended textbooks for core content instruction must be on Public Review for 30 days prior to the recommendation to the BOE for adoption of the text. The Physics book will be on public display in the high school Library from 1/20/12 through 2/20/12. If parents/students are interested in reviewing the book, please stop by the Library and complete a review card with your comments. Questions? Please feel free to contact Chuck Hendrick (HS instructor) or Bev Tarpley, Assistant Superintendent.
